Jimmy Ellis was flying on his CanAm.  He had a big lead a few laps into the first moto before his bike broke.

Defending Champion Tony DeStefano #1 was lucky enough to defend his 250cc title in '77.  Hannah #2 was concentrating on defending his own 125cc title.  In this head to head race Bob was clearly the class of the field.
